AGILE STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT

One of the core tasks of top management or corporate leadership is to review and adjust the corporate strategy. This usually happens every 2 to 3 years, although iterations can be significantly shorter depending on the industry.

• Due to dynamic markets and in some cases the sudden appearance of new competitors, iteration cycles are becoming shorter and shorter and agility is also becoming an increasingly significant part of strategy development – for example in the tech and finance industries. In such cases new demands are being placed on the strategy process: It has to be more modular and iterative than it was a few years ago.

It often then makes sense to use the purpose (as a strategic framework) as the starting point for agile thinking and initially to develop sub-strategies that contribute to the overall strategy. These are reviewed during implementation and the findings and results are used to develop further sub-strategies. With this proven approach, the important thing is to ensure consistency by correlating the sub-strategies with the overall strategy on a regular basis.
